DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, Bhubaneswar, the oldest and the pioneer among the DAVs in Odisha functions under the aegis of DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi was established in the year 1971 by the Doyen of the DAV Movement, Dr. Ayodhya Nath Khosla. The then tenderfoot is today a young crackerjack treading its way into the golden years, carrying forward with it a legacy of academic excellence and innovative advent.
The school houses nearly about 3800 students right from the Lower Kindergarten to Class XII(Science, Commerce and Humanities). The aim of the school has always been to provide a promising and supportive ambience where a student develops into a well rounded personality and rises to his optimal potential. The school religiously uphold its motto: WORK IS WORSHIP.
The stately edifice is spread over an extensive campus in the heart of the city. It is well guarded with the security arrangements of CCTV surveillance of the campus round the clock, is well equipped with laboratories for the Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science students(both Junior and Senior), the Atal Tinkering Lab, the English Language Laborator, a conference hall and an Auditorium, a basketball court and lovely gardens. Every classroom in our building is fortunate to have visual digital aids creating provision for a practical approach to learning.

Students and teachers are woven into the fabric of community that learning and living require values like patriotism, fellow feeling and social service. The same is imbibed into the students through participation in activities by NCC (ARMY and NAVY), Scout, Guide, Cub and Bulbul, Red Cross, NSS, Sports and Games. At the same time the scholastic areas are taken care by various club such as the Spelling Bee, Debate , Heritage, Eco, Health and Wellness, Aurora, Astronomy and Adolescent Education. The school also believes in teaching professionals ethics and prepare students for the business world.
Right from the classrooms to our fields, we all take responsibility for the education of our students. Special remedial classes for academically weak students are a regular feature of the school. Special coaching classes are conducted for the aspirants of NTSE, JMO and RMO etc. Talent and confidence is tapped in these special classes as well as the summer camp organised in the month of May.
Capacity Building Programmes and motivational talks are a regular feature for both the students as well as teaching and non teaching staff.
